We woke up refreshed and the sun was a'shinin'! So we decided to take a walk in the beautiful French Quarter.
We stopped in at the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park a few doors down from our hotel on Decatur. Lafitte was a rapscallion but he played an integral part in the forming of New Orleans. Yeah, that's right - I was sworn in and got a Junior Ranger badge.
We wandered through the French Market where I found this gem.
And then we went to the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park and learned about the artists and the music that are so integral to the culture here. And that's right - got me another Junior Ranger Badge!
This is Fats Domino's piano and a painting of him on the wall. Fats was me Da's favorite!
Paintings and folk art by artists in the area.
I loved Louis Armstrong before but this quote made me fall in love all over again.
Back to the French market for some oysters!
We wandered back along Decatur Ave. and stopped at an outside market for a shrimp po' boy and some gumbo. WE liked it. :)
Liam wanted to buy 'Donald Trump' hands which he did and which was fine until the 37th time he put them in my face and they ended up in my pocketbook. Proving indeed that everything Trump is annoying.
A boy and his levee.
This is St. Louis's Cathedral. There were several bands of jazz musicians playing outside and we pulled the heavy white doors opened and stepped inside with reverence. It is ornate and lovely and had a feeling of warmth despite the ornate grandeur of the paintings and its massive size.
We got our car and stopped at St. Louis Cemetery Number 2 on our way out of town.
What a difference a day makes!
We decided we'd push on until we felt tired so we ended up in Houston, Texas. This hat thief is enjoying a top sirloin steak and speaking with a drawl.
Flight of margaritas! The one on the end was smoked pineapple and it was delish!
Finally made it to the really nice, super comfortable room!
